It's been a tough first half of the year for many event businesses due to the weather,
then just as things start to pick up we start hearing reports
of event businesses paying fees for pitches at Olympic related events that either don't exist or where turnout has been very poor. We've said it time and time again
"Do Your Homework!" and say to yourself "I will need to
sell X amount of food items or rides just to cover that pitch fee before making a profit". If that sounds
feasible research the event thoroughly and check with authorities. |
Taking your Catering Services to the Customer
A sandwich or snack van conversion has to be the perfect choice for any new mobile catering business that is looking for the freedom and ability to trade at multiple
daily locations. Perfect for building regular lunchtime rounds on industrial
estates or attending several event venues over a day, a good van conversion
fitted out with quality equipment has to be a good investment.

Business Planning |
Carefully plan where you can operate your new catering unit. The general consensus and
attitude by many new inexperienced mobile caterers is that you can just pull up anywhere, open the hatch and start serving food.
Unfortunately with all the current food safety regulations and roadside trading laws
the reality is somewhat different, which requires careful planning with
permissions and trading licences obtained where needed. |
Questions to ask... 1. Do you feel there's a need for a food outlet in any particular location?
2. Are there already numerous mobile caterers operating in
that area? 3. Are there usually objections to food outlets from residents or council's?
Ensure that you... 1. Contact your local council (in all cases) to check if a license is required.
2. Seek permission from land owners or businesses to trade nearby. 3. Do a
customer survey and check whether your service is needed or not.
