Villagefetes NEWSLETTER FOR EVENT AND LEISURE BUSINESSES
Issue Number.121 March 2013
EVERYTHING FOR EVENT AND LEISURE RELATED BUSINESSES IN ONE PLACE
Link to The Safe Shop - Tow Bar Hitch Locks
In all the excitement and anticipation of starting an events related business it's easy to overlook some of the other essential equipment items that may be needed. Often the focus is on the main business items that will bring in the money i.e. the catering trailer, the inflatable slide, the ride etc with little thought given to electricity supply, anti theft devices, cash security plus tools and accessories needed for day to day running or your new event business.
Of course catering trailer and amusement manufactures may include many of the essential equipment items as part of their "ready to operate" packages, however if you are purchasing second hand, items may not be included and should be carefully budgeted for as they can be an unexpected expense.

Business Planning
Making Purchases in Haste Can Lead to a Bad Purchase
We've all done it, realised that we don't have the tool to do the job and rush out in a mad panic and buy the first one we find and wished we had spent more time to look around. Suddenly realising that you don't have a gas regulator spanner, a generator spark plug remover/cleaner or jerry can for refuelling can be frustrating to say the least. Take a good look at all your equipment and do a dummy usage run creating an "essential tools" and a "what if" list of items to buy. Look at gas bottle changeovers, power supply and generator operating, fresh water transportation, trailer positioning and stabilising on uneven ground surfaces, money and general anti theft security.
Trailer and Amusement Ride Security.
If you can hook it up and drive it away so could someone else and from experience regardless of tracking devices, chassis numbering and fitted locks the disruption to business is more costly than taking simple precautions. Never leave your trailer or ride overnight at a venue unless onsite security is provided, if you need too, always wheel clamp it, fit a tow hitch lock and take off site all easily removable valuable and personal items, generators, tills, credit card machines etc. Avoid temptation to lock equipment in the trailer.

Round Up
Tip: If your generator won't start on a cold morning remove the spark plug and clean it with a wire brush taking care not to alter spark gap then carefully warm the plug over a suitable heat source and while still warm replace it, wait for the plug to warm the air in the piston chamber (30 secs) and then retry.
